Happy Lunar New Year!

恭喜發財

Chúc mừng năm mới

새해 복 많이 받으세요

And “Happy Lunar New Year” for the rest of us. Sorry, I’m not going to look up every language that celebrates it.

So the picture on the left is the nengajō (New Year’s card) I made for Japanese class. I’m too lazy to make another one for actual Lunar New Year, but it’s still the Year of the Boar so…

You can view a larger picture of the card, and read the translations below.

(Top right) 1/1/2007, because the Japanese New Year is Jan. 1 and not lunar at all. Just mentally change it to 2007年2月17日.

(Top left) i no toshi, or Year of the Boar.

(Bottom left) kinga shinnen / Happy New Year.

(Haiku)

O-shōgatsu (New Year’s)

Yuraide iru ki (The swaying trees)

Kaze no shita (Under the wind)
