Mitsuha (WIP)

Today for NaCreSoMo I worked on a digital drawing-from-reference of Miyamizu Mitsuha from Kimi no Na wa. Here it is without shading (and with some other known issues):

This is the same technique I used to draw Ryūgū Rena for “Sa-you-nara”. By putting the two images side-by-side, I can get the vertical proportions right more easily, and also have an easy way to reference back to the original image.

…at least, that’s the theory. With Mitsuha I’ve clearly screwed up the face proportions, making the eyes too low and the hair too big. The body came out pretty good, though—close enough that I probably won’t bother redoing it. (I’m proud of how I fixed up the right side after drawing her left hand too small.)

The point of this kind of drawing is a lot like the Doki Doki Literature Club arrangement project: I can get a feel for how things fit together. For example, here’s Mitsuha’s left eye (my version):

That eye actually looks pretty good when zoomed out, and here you can see that it’s just four colors: dark brown, light brown, white, and black. It’s amazing what those art people do…!
