"Nothing Left of Heaven"

New guitar cover—the first mashup-cover I’ve done here! “Heaven on a Hill” is a serious, beautiful song from the normally-lighthearted Jane Lui, and “Nothing Left For Us To Find” is an imagery-heavy, “very emo” song from my favorite artist, Vienna Teng. Put the two together, and you get “Nothing Left of Heaven”.

Apologies; it’s a bit out of my range!

If you’re on a slow internet connection, you might want to download the audio instead.

Don’t have much to say about this one, except that it’s not really supposed to make sense. I mean, the stories are somewhat compatible, but I didn’t think too much about that…just sort of strung things together and alternated in a way that made sense to me.

Oh, and I guess you should know that “Nothing Left For Us To Find” actually came from a challenge where Vienna Teng and several other artists had to write a song in an hour. I mean, I’ve done some musical improv myself, but…wow.

of course it’s winter when I want to find with you
that heaven on a hill
that heaven on a hill
no more day light, the summer nights used up the sunlight
the heaven on a hill
our heaven on a hill

gaze up, arms in, I’ll dive in thru your mouth
and rest there by your lips
hold on hold on
breathe into me
as I seek this heaven on a hill

blue of an evening, crumbled and crushed
smell of the rain and the oil and dust and tar

pavement busted under our feet
brown bottle glass fragments wink like stars

we’ve come looking
two ghosts come haunting

but there’s nothing left for us to find
just barren branches, abandoned chances
nothing left for us to find

up against the better lights
I stand before you
a willow in the rain
a willow in the rain
yet you crawled into my hand
with a sweet hello this
willow in the rain
willow in the rain

well it’s all too perfect
time to look back at us now

but there’s nothing left for us to find
just blackened houses, a voice without says
there’s nothing left for us to find
of what we might have been

let me jump into your pocket with my worth, I
dream the rules away and close the book
don’t wanna see… I…

I think this might be freedom
one small glimmer

cause there’s nothing left for us to find…with you
words come crashing out of the dusk
ricocheting off of the rusting cars don’t start
and yet you crawled into my hand
eyes in your shoulder
like home it’ll always be

cause there’s nothing left for us to find
we burned it clean down, can’t be seen now
nothing left for us to find
we burned it clean down to the green ground

of course it’s winter when I want to find with you
that heaven on a hill
that heaven on a hill
