It should be easy, shouldn’t it?
Just four plain English letters
That’s where I am now, isn’t it?
So why these mental fetters?

The place I left, now that is one
But not for several years
And now that time is o’er and done
Behind those turning gears

I know I’ll make my way in life
Yea, even side-by-side
And yet my tune on thready fife
Feels lost beneath the tide

So I suppose I’ll learn to sail
For I am there no more
Just four plain English letters now
To call this land my shore
