"Haunted House"

Today for NaCreSoMo I fooled around a bit in GarageBand to make something that sounded ominous and spooky.

Did I succeed? Well, not with the overall direction I wanted to go. I probably should have stuck with the electronic direction instead of going orchestral.

This endeavour was inspired by Laura Shigihara’s “Haunting”

as well as a friend’s encouragement to read the visual novelうみねこのく頃に」, a horror/‌mystery/‌fantasy story whose ending music also fits this style. Maybe I’ll come back to “haunted house mixes” sometime later.

Oh, and I’m also back from traveling, and drew these traced portraits for two of the people I visited. I’m not doing the project with any regularity anymore, but I’ll still do them every now and then when the mood takes me. (Or if I get a request! Hint hint.)

What’s special about these portraits is that I’m trying out a new style for hair; previously I’d always use solid black or a plain outline instead of drawing hairs. I’m not sure if I like this better, but I’ll stick with it for a bit. The inspiration for this change came from seeing exhibits from the Prudential Eye Awards, specifically Aditya Novali’s “Conversation Unknown”. Novali’s portraits are in much the same style as mine (hardly a new style, though I don’t think his are traced).
