Butternut Squash

All right, gather round, everyone’s come to watch
The biggest event in Yehonatan County.
The Triannual Contest for Best Butternut Squash!
Let’s head on down and check out this year’s bounty.

This one here’s certainly ripe for the finals
It comes from the reigning champion, Ms. Ren.
It’s a plump specimen but still nicely rounded.
We’ll see if she squashes the competition again.

Mr. M has his own way of growing his squash.
We can here see the fruits of his three years of labor.
See how the grooves in the side are quite smooth
The judges might consider that a gourd idea.

Come take a look at this one over here.
It’s so thin that it must have been grown in a bubble.
Already it’s sour, exposed to the air
These “new innovations” are just a-skin for trouble.

But this contender’s really got some ap-peel!
I think here the seeds of ambition were sown!
The shine, the glow, the luster is flawless.
You might even say it has a rind of its own.

Food for thought: the contest has grown exponentially
Since its inceptional ‘80 premier.
We’ll be back in an hour, when the judges announce
from the pulp-it who wins the trophy this year!
