I'll Be Damned

Enough! No more talk. This discussion is over.
You don’t know what it’s like, and what I’ve been through.
I can’t believe you’re considering this.
I’ll be damned if I let it happen to you.

No “if”s, “and”s, or “but”s! I won’t let it happen.
How could you be so blind to this plight?
This isn’t a problem we should have to deal with.
A fate such as this one – it just isn’t right!

As a child I grew up without this privilege.
That’s the way that our family lived, before
I found out early on that something was missing.
I didn’t know then that there could be more.

Yes, I know there are others worse off than us.
But this is a basic necessity of life.
We’re not poor, we’re not struggling. We can afford this.
It’s like a kitchen’s Swiss Army Knife.

I mean it. We’re getting one. I’ll order online.
This is what turns a house to a home.
It would be truly tragic if our daughter grew up
Not having a rice cooker of our very own.
