I can’t stop the trembling
I can’t stop the shakes
Breath still coming quick and shallow
Can’t help but feel the aches.

I can’t fall asleep tonight
The memories still replay
Close my eyes, relive the moment
I won’t forget today.

I don’t know how to cope with this
Adrenaline in my veins
Came all too close to losing all
Things may never be the same.

If we are shaped forever by the moments in our lives
Tonight I’m dealt a hammer blow that I may not survive.

This one is interesting because it wouldn’t be so interesting, save for the title – and because this whole exercise is to write poems based on others’ titles, I probably wouldn’t have written it otherwise. It’s kind of like Jeopardy!, where the “answer” is often not really how you’d answer the questions provided by contestants.
