Happy Lunar New Year!
Once again, Happy Lunar New Year to everyone who celebrates it, and Happy Thursday to everyone who doesn’t. Like last year I’ve got some translations, mostly just for fun…with a little bonus thrown in.
恭喜发财 — yes, that is me speaking, sounding a bit confused
새해 복 많이 받으세요 — because I’m reading/watching a traditional Korean story for a class
Chúc mừng năm mới — might be able to pronounce it if someone gave me IPA and solfege
Like last year, I’m going to post the nengajō I made (that’s a Japanese New Year’s card). There’s no happy new year in Japanese because the Japanese calendar is now solar, specifically the Gregorian calendar.
You can view a larger version of the card (or the card itself if you’re on Facebook and don’t get the nice thumbnail). There’s no haiku this year, simply “Year of the Rat”, “2008-01-01” (um, change that to “2008-02-07” for this), and “Happy New Year” (literally something like “congratulations on the entrance [of the new year]”). Oh. And a ねずみ. *grin*
Yes. Enjoy the Year of the Rat, and remember, you can always get ahead of the competition by using someone else’s effort!
