When the World Stops Spinning

Today’s NaCreSoMo post is a sketch of a music video plan for Kyler England’s “When the World Stops Spinning”.

The original setting in my mind was the Berkeley hills, either up near the Big C or along the Fire Trails, but another possibility that’s growing on me would be the old forts in the Presidio near the Golden Gate Bridge.

I’ve had images for this song bounce around for a while now, but they haven’t quite cohered yet into a full video—what I’ve put down here doesn’t mean anything yet; it’s just pretty. Most importantly, I don’t know why the main character is searching, or rather I don’t know why the absent love interest is missing. Or how to make the video effective if the love interest is never shown, which is something I’ve also had in mind. Any ideas, anyone?

(If you’re interested in helping make this video a reality, let me know. I’ll probably cave and buy some new editing software soon, and either buy or borrow a camera. It’s been too long.)

Meanwhile, you can watch my other two music videos: OneRepublic’s “All Fall Down” and Amber Rubarth’s “In the Creases”.

(opening instrumentals)

Woods, dark. Slow pan along the ground, showing leaves and plant debris. Other detail shots. No signs of people.

There’s a charcoal sky tonight. See the hills on fire for miles

A beat and torn sneaker steps into the frame, treading with determination and weariness. CHRIS wobbles forwards, wearing beat-up, worn-out clothes and an old backpack.

The air is hard to breathe. Home is hard to leave, even now…even now.

CHRIS collapses to knees. Close-up, side, fighting for breath. Some indication of home (amulet or pendant?), clutched in hand for support.

I will let you go, when the world stops spinning.

gasping for air and strength

I will let you go, when the world stops spinning.

crying silently

I will let you go when the sun and the stars explode

struggles to a standing position again. Shoe lifts off the ground.

and the world stops spinning

CHRIS begins walking again.

(instrumentals)

Wide shot…no one else around. Camera turns away slowly, then faster for transition.

When the terra firma quakes

Sunrise over the hills/forts/whatever. Change angle to more downwards, incl. water.

When the ocean’s tide awakes

Continue previous shot. CHRIS steps through in foreground.

I would rather die, then to ever say goodbye

Camera pans around behind CHRIS, walking along wall or trail.

to you my love…to you my love

Lower half of face; CHRIS mouths the words, then sets jaw

I will let you go, when the world stops spinning.
I will let you go, when the world stops spinning.
I will let you go when the sun and the stars explode
and the world stops spinning

??

I don’t need a savior, I don’t need a saint.

Day. Front shot, CHRIS striding forwards, ideally through heat haze.

When the moment comes I’ll be calling out your name.

??

How I long…

CHRIS reaches out [to what??]

to be with you

overbalances

till the end

and falls, face-first, flat on the grass.

(drums)

I will let you go, when the world stops spinning.
I will let you go, when the world stops spinning.
I will let you go when the sun and the stars explode
and the world stops spinning

?? [Does Chris get up? Do we see thoughts while down?]

There’s a charcoal sky tonight

[I’m going to assume Chris stays down, though I have no reason for it.] Wide shot, CHRIS lying in the field.

See the hills on fire for miles

Wide shot, landscape. Blur and fade.
