Golden Gate CSS

As I’ve done several times in past years, today’s NaCreSoMo post builds on another participant’s creation. This time around I decided to play with some simple animation on top of this great picture by Theresa J.

I really like the colors in Theresa’s picture; yellows and dark blues aren’t colors I’d think to use very often. I wanted to do something with it, but wasn’t sure what. This seemed like a pretty good choice though!

One thing that’s kind of interesting here is that all the animation is happening live in the browser using CSS. It’s not an animated GIF or movie, but nor is it built from scratch; it’s really just a bunch of layers moving on top of one another.

For example, one layer just contains a single bird.
