Made of Tape and Wire

Blown to pieces, blown to ash
Here and there a fire
Skeletal frames exposed to air
Made of tape and wire

City on the river wide
Full of pride and life
In an instant leveled flat
Dealt destruction rife

Silence now a reigning queen
The wind let go a sigh
Dust refuses settling down
On walls now three bricks high

There’s something missing, something missed
That runs or walks…or crawls
The people were or not a part
Left shadows on the walls

And now we see it stripped and bare
To what we did aspire
All our promises, all our hopes
Made of tape and wire.

Though you can always find your own interpretation, today’s poem decided to be about the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, commonly known as the “Genbaku Dome”.

In the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, there's a wall-sized photo of the devastation.

The dome still stands today.
