Not Quite Human

Come away, don’t play with them
You know better than that
You may think you’ve made a new friend
But they’ll never feel the same way back

We make these laws for their protection
You know this fate’s preferred
They’d be lost without our direction
A massive undirected herd

This is why we must be keepers
You know they’re not like us
Perhaps one day you’ll be their leader
Perhaps one day you’ll hold their trust

And then, with all their force in hand
What great things you might do
Perhaps, my child, all goes as planned
The future shines so bright for you

All my first ideas for this were too close to the first poem of the month, the whimsically-titled “nyarf”. Once again, it was a reversal of sorts that provided inspiration.

Part of Poem-a-Day 2013. Title donated by Flynn.
