nyarf

Never quite in the center of the group
Yet no sickly blossom by the wall
Artifical distance and forced laughs
Reacting to the reactions, not the jokes
Fleeting seconds after everyone else

No one to tell how
Yesterday I met the most amazing
And I’m seeing them again tomorrow
Received or given, it hardly matters
For it’s the exchange that counts

Neither the trusty pal to go out with
Your reliable drinking partner, or
Alone, the one you call at night
Reaching for human connection
Finding a level of indirection

Not Yet A Real Friend
But someday
Someday
