"Ordinary Moment"
This is for a friend, and for her father.
If you’re on a slow internet connection, you might want to download the audio instead.
This is several weeks late, but I really wanted to do it anyway. The original song by The Animators is about a significant other, but it somehow fit for this particular purpose. And I wasn’t going to be stopped by little things like “not knowing the chords” or “not really getting the rhythm”.
The shirt you wore
The day I finished high school
The way you laughed
When you turned forty-fiveMy mind is full
Of scenes from all of our memorable days
But now you’re awayI want to hold on
To an ordinary moment
Polish it and hold it like a stone
I want to see you
No matter where you go
I’ll have an ordinary moment with youA thousand times
You’ve watched me rise in the morning
A thousand times
You’ve tucked me in at nightWith each repeat
You add another line to the picture
Of life that you’ve drawnI want to hold on
To an ordinary moment
Polish it and hold it like a stone
I want to see you
No matter where you go
I’ll have an ordinary moment
An ordinary moment with you
With youIf I can hold on
I can hold on
I will hold on
