Floating Laptops

Find one, take one, pass it on
Before the one-time chance is gone
An opportunity you get
To venture on the Internet.

In your whole life, you’ve never seen
Such a miracle machine
Appears to those who are in need
A phantom tool, great worth indeed.

And though the web’s a scary place
It’s also home to light and grace
Connections via words that mean
The world upon the glowing screen.

Alas but all good things must close
Our gift but lent, and now it goes
But you’ll be changèd by the end
Log in as guest, log out as friend.

I think there’s a short story idea in here as well. Sort of a cross between The Phantom Tollbooth and Seven-Day Magic.
