What did the penguin say to the chicken?

The penguin met the chicken
Beneath the old oak tree
The one out by the highway
At roughly half past three

The two had clearly planned it
A premeditated meeting
The chicken, she looked nervous
The penguin’s eyes were gleaming

What everyone agreed on
Is that the two stood near
The penguin then leaned over
Her beak near chicken’s ear

The chicken paused, then turned and fled
As the penguin stepped away
But on that busy highway
A tragedy struck that day

Why did the chicken cross the road?
If only we could know
For now she’s on the other side
And the penguin’s on Death Row.

I did not expect today’s poem to pass the Bechdel-Wallace test, but it did. Well, probably.
